My Maytag dryer nightmare:
We have one at the barn for laundering the microfiber towels for milking hygiene. I have replaced a couple blower fans and a belt, acquired from an appliance parts store which fortunately we still have with no issues.
However, when the motor failed, had to order one from from this store. I had much difficulty removing the old motor and removing the pulley.
Of course, with Whirlpool taking over the Maytag business, the motor wiring is completely different, requiring changing wires around and changing some end tabs. First of all, there were NO instructions or diagrams in the new part box. After several calls to the parts guy, who was of little help, I convinced him to give me the Whirlpool website with the instructions and pictures.
I reconfigured the wiring exactly as shown and to the best of my ability, but testing before reassembling the dryer instantly tripped the breaker. So after 6 hours of wasted time with no lunch, $130 spent and no results, it is dead in the water with no resolution that I know of. Like you said, I could have bought a reconditioned unit for $325 and been done with it. Guess I will still have to and no returning the new motor I’m sure.
